Education about Huntington’s disease is a key element in improving care and increasing awareness for those impacted by the disease. Huntingtons Queensland offers these information sessions to service providers across the state, with the intention of improving the quality of care given to our community throughout Queensland.
What are the education sessions?
Education sessions are run by our Client Services team, and are designed for service providers caring for individuals with Huntington’s disease. These sessions are usually delivered to nursing facility staff at the nursing facility, but can be arranged for other service providers and families if requested. The sessions are run in a presentation style, followed by a question-and-answer session with the facilitator. They can take an hour or more, depending on the discussions after the presentation, and often focus on the physical, cognitive and mental health issues that can appear as the disease progresses. The content can be tailored to your needs – just have a chat to the team.
What is the aim of these sessions?
Education sessions are designed primarily to help Queensland service providers and professionals give patients with Huntington’s disease the best care possible. Due to the rare nature of HD, many service providers have little or no experience caring for or assisting individuals with HD, and require specialised training to help them adapt their service for this complex condition. By engaging with these sessions, service providers are given a thorough overview of Huntington’s disease in a practical and educational way, and have the opportunity to seek further knowledge from our experienced staff about best practice and what to expect as the disease progresses.
Who can attend sessions?
Sessions are available upon request to any service provider community group in Queensland. However, depending upon location, there may be some wait time before we are able to send our Client Services staff in person. Sessions are open to all who wish to attend, but the focus of the sessions are on care and management best practice for service providers, and are not necessarily relevant to individuals and carers outside of a professional setting.
